Avenue of trees dedicated to first two space explorers


A dedication of avenue of trees took place Friday at the Houston International Promenade to honor the first two space explorers, Cosmonaut Yuri A. Gagarin and Astronaut Neil Armstrong.


Gagarin and Armstrong Avenue opened in Houston’s East Downtown thanks to the Russian “Russian world” Foundation, East of Downtown of Houston Management, Embassy of Russia in Washington, Russian General Consulate in Houston, Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Russian Federal Space Agency, NASA, European Space Agency, Association of Space Explorers, Mayor’s Office of Houston, Houston Cultural Affairs Office, “Kindness without Limits,” Russian school of Houston, Always Together Organization, and volunteers who came and helped to organize the opening, set up a tent, set up tables and chairs, prepare snacks.


The dedication is part of Phase 1 of the Sister Cities of Houston’s initiative to create a promenade in Houston’s East Downtown district where the city’s international and diverse community can unite and be celebrated.
