Three SPJ Houston board members attended and graduated from the SPJ Scripps Leadership Institute in Fort Worth Feb. 7-9, 2014.
SPJ Houston board vice president Sarah Tucker (above, from left), secretary Kassia Micek and director at large Ray Ruiz were among the roughly 20 attendees (below) that were accepted into the institute and graduated.
Between training sessions, there was time for fun, including a casino night full of laughs, fake money and drinks.
The majority of the institute focused on developing leadership skills and teaching attendees how to utilize their personal leadership styles and how to work best with those of different leadership styles.
Participants took the DiSC assessment profile (below) to determine their personality behavior traits.
Other sessions focused on group brain storming.
The end result was a room full of friends, better-informed journalists and newly trained leaders ready to take on the world.
