REMINDER: Community newspaper panel discussion is tomorrow

The SPJ Houston Pro Chapter invites you to attend a panel discussion featuring community newspaper editors from across the Houston region starting at 6:30 p.m. TOMORROW at the Central Library in downtown Houston.

 
• Wednesday, March 20
6:30-7:45 p.m., preceded by a 5:30 p.m. SPJ chapter open business meeting

Panelists:

• Jason Culpepper, Community Impact Newspaper – Houston Metro publisher

• Howard Decker, Houston Chronicle Ultimate Neighborhood news manager

• Andy DuBois, Houston Community Newspapers executive editor

• Jonathan McElvy, The Leader News publisher

The panelists will discuss how they compete with 24-hour media outlets while providing local coverage that readers care about. They will also address student journalists and offer advice on how to prepare for a career in journalism, where to start and the skills editors look for in reporters. There will be a Q&A, time permitting
