Eagle, Advocate, Patel, Pool big local winners from Texas AP Managing Editors

Reporter Vimal Patel, photographer Smiley N. Pool, the Bryan-College Station Eagle and the Victoria Advocate have won wheelbarrows full of honors from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors annual journalism contest.

In the Eagle‘s circulation category, Patel won star reporter of the year as well as star investigative reporter of the year, along with an honorable mention for star breaking news report of the year and a first-place award for best short feature.

For the Houston Chronicle‘s circulation category, Pool won star photojournalist of the year, star online report of the year, and a first-place award for general news photo. He also won two second-place awards and two third places.

Meanwhile, the Eagle and the Advocate each took seven first-place awards.

The Chron and the Beaumont Enterprise also did very well, each taking five first place awards also with numerous seconds, thirds and honorable mentions. The Galveston Daily News took three first-places and the Clute Facts took two firsts.

Winning at least one first-place honor were the Baytown Sun, the Conroe Courier and La Voz.
