Get ready for awards season with SPJ

As the year starts to draw to a close, it’s time to be thinking about those entries for SPJ’s Sigma Delta Chi Awards — and college students, it’s time for you to think about your entries in SPJ’s Mark of Excellence Awards. SDX entries are due Feb. 9, and Mark of Excellence entries are due Jan. 26. SPJ is also looking for volunteers to help judge both contests.

AWARDS GALORE

It’s that time of year again – prepare your best work for recognition in journalism awards contests. That’s clearly more important than any other obligations the next two months . . .

And no matter your place in the industry – student, professional, ethnic media, etc – SPJ likely has an award and category appealing to you, such as:

Mark of Excellence Awards:

This competition honors student journalism in print, radio, television and online categories. Our easy-to-use online submission format makes all the difference in time, money and convenience.

All work must have been published or broadcast in 2010. And, with an entry fee of $9 for SPJ members, getting your work recognized won’t necessitate another loan.

See all the categories, rules and information on the submission process at the MOE Awards page. And don’t forget to mark the deadline for entries: Jan. 26, 2011.

Sigma Delta Chi Awards:

Dating back to 1932, the Sigma Delta Chi Awards honor professional journalism excellence in all media: print, art/graphics, radio, television, online, newsletters and research. Continuing this year are categories for non-daily publications and specialty news websites, among others. And, the streamlined online submission process will save you time and money.

All work must have been published or broadcast in 2010. Winners will be honored at the Excellence in Journalism 2011 conference in New Orleans Sept. 25-28.

See all the categories, rules and information on the submission process at the SDX Awards page. The entry deadline is Feb. 9, 2011.

Please consider entering your work in one of these competitions, and encourage your journalism friends and colleagues to do the same. For questions on any SPJ awards, contact Lauren Rochester at 317-927-8000 ext. 210 or awards@spj.org.
